As a participant, imagine what a successful and sustainable start-up in 2030 looks like?

Which crucial competences and skills do its founders and employees have?

What has been the legacy of the COVID pandemic on entrepreneurship, and how have they responded?

How have they been supported to meet the twin challenges of digitalization and sustainability?

In your essay, imagine the story of three different entrepreneurs embarking on a journey to become sustainable start-ups of the future.
Describe their stories of success, their struggles, their needs and what key skills and competences they should have in order to start and grow sustainable, resilient SMEs.

This is the sixth season of the SME Youth Essay Competition. It’s therefore launching for the sixth time with a brand new question for the youth of Europe to address in their submission. The core questions includes:

  1. What does SMEs need to become sustainable and resilient in the content of the COVID19 pandemic and other global challenges.
    2. Think about competencies and skills needed in the future for an Entrepreneur and describe three promising and sustainable start-ups in 2030

The Youth Essay competition is designed and organization by the European Commission from the office of the Directorate-General for Single Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs.

The essay serves many purpose one of which is to test and collect young and professional opinions of Youth on Small and Medium Enterprises, identifying challenges and addressing same and as well identifying promising Startups and their business culture.

The essay competition is an opportunity for interested participants who is between the age of 18 to 25years old. This categories of individuals are to share ideas and viewpoints with key figures and stakeholders in the spheres of enterprise, entrepreneurship and SMEs.

To participate, submit your essay of no more than 2 500 words in English before vai the submission portal before the 26 September 2021.

Rules and requirements for European Commission Essay Competition for Youths (All countries)

The competition is open to all youth between the age of18 to 25year olds.

Participants should come from European Member States or COSME partners countries, you are advised to check COSME member countries before applying.

Be sure that your Essays does not exceed 2 500 words in length

All essays must be written in English language.

Only one entry per applicant, applicants with more than one entry will be disqualified.

Be reminded that the deadline for submissions is 26 September 2022

The three finalists in the Essay competition will be announced in October ahead of SME Week and will compete at a grand finale as part of the SME Assembly, where they will present their essays

Thereafter, the final winner will be chosen via a public vote
