About the Just Tech Fellowship
In a time where technology is rapidly reshaping our world, it is crucial to go beyond the influence of policymakers and big tech titans. The Just Tech Fellowship acknowledges that communities house brilliant individuals—artists, activists, technologists, and thinkers—who have cultivated fertile ground for equitable change. By providing an ecosystem of care, the fellowship aims to empower these individuals to continue their impactful work.
As the world grapples with a legacy of systemic discrimination, the fellowship envisions reshaping the limits and potential of new technology. It emphasizes that expertise and experiential knowledge should inform efforts to bring about structural change. The Just Tech Fellowship and its fellows aspire to construct technological futures that embody justice, equity, agency, knowledge, and joy.
Nabiha Syed, Just Tech Advisory Board Member and President of The Markup, commends the fellowship, stating, “The Just Tech Fellowship creates a community of leaders moving from ‘we know this isn’t working for us’ to ‘let’s build something that does work for us’ That is amazing at a time when optimism feels a little scarce.”
The fellowship has previously supported impactful individuals like Kim Gallon, Chris Gilliard, Christine Miranda, Clarence Okoh, Meme Styles, and Rua Williams, each contributing to reshaping our technological landscape for a more just and equitable future.
The Just Tech Fellowship is a highly sought-after program that offers a generous award of $100,000 per year, along with supplementary funding packages. It celebrates the potential of technology to bring about positive social change and serves as a beacon of hope for those who share this vision. By providing a platform for diverse perspectives to shape the future, the Just Tech program advances the cause of justice, equity, and joy in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. It is an opportunity for innovative thinkers to make a meaningful impact and create a better future for all.
