The scholarships are open to those who aspire to pursue Masters and PhD degrees in New Zealand for the academic session of 2023/2024.
Candidates with a remarkable academic background, either in their first year of undergraduate studies or enrolled in a postgraduate program, are encouraged to seek this award. The scholarship entails 10 grants of NZ$10,000 for Bachelor’s and Masters degree students, along with 9 awards of NZ$5,000 designated exclusively for Masters degree candidates. Furthermore, each year, 110 PhD students are granted stipends and tuition fees amounting to $27,500. The funding covers tuition fees once the candidate has been accepted into the university.

The benefits of the Victoria University Wellington Scholarships include;
- The Victoria University Wellington Scholarships 2023 for International Students will offer NZ$10,000 to both Undergraduate and Masters degree students, totaling 10 awards.
- Additionally, 9 awards of NZ$5,000 will be exclusively granted to Masters degree candidates. The scholarship’s duration spans 1 year.
- Also, 110 awards will be extended to Doctorate students, encompassing an annual stipend of $27,500 along with coverage for tuition fees.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be:
- International students who are paying full international fees.
- Entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree.
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:
- Completed your secondary education at a New Zealand school
- Completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies Programme
- Are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from one of our overseas partner universities
- Are in your second year of study in the same degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington.
Required Documentation for Application
The following documentation must be provided as part of your online scholarship application:
- A personal statement of up to 500 words outlining why you wish to study at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic goals and why you merit the scholarship. You should also include any leadership positions and details of your involvement in your school or community.
- Full transcripts and other documentation relevant to the qualification type.
- An offer of place from Victoria University of Wellington (conditional or unconditional).
Application Method
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date – September 1st, 2023. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
