The aim of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is to unite the world of thoughts with the world of policy by promoting a pre-eminent scholarship and connecting that scholarship to problems of interest to authorities in Washington.

The Center provides 9-month housing fellowships through a global contest. The Wilson Center invites academics, professionals, reporters and government intellectuals to participate in its flagship global fellowship program. Fellows undertake research and write in their fields of concern while interacting with policymakers in Washington, D.C. and Wilson Center employees and other academics in residence. The Center accepts policy-relevant, non-advocacy proposals for fellowships that address important problems facing the United States and the world.

Scholarship Summary

The Wilson Center is offering a postdoctoral fellowship program for all specializations. The program period runs from early September through May, and fellows are expected to be in residence for the entire U.S. academic year. However, shorter periods are also available, with a minimum of four months. The opportunity is open to all citizens or permanent residents of any country. The deadline to apply is October 1, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria for Woodrow Wilson Center Fellowships

To be eligible for Woodrow Wilson Center scholarship, you must be/ have:

  • Required Language: English.
  • Eligible Countries: All world countries
  • Men and women with outstanding capabilities and experience from a wide variety of backgrounds (including academia, business, government, journalism, law, and other professions).
  • Citizens or permanent residents from any country (applicants from countries outside the United States must hold a valid passport and be able to obtain a J-1 visa even if they are currently in the United States).
  • Academic candidates holding a PhD or J.D. (degree must be received by the application deadline of October 1).
  • Academic candidates demonstrate scholarly achievement through publications beyond their doctoral dissertations.
  • Practitioners or policymakers with an equivalent level of professional achievement.
  • English proficiency as the Center is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas among its fellows.
