Introduction to Mozida Foundation Scholarships for African Students

The Mozida Foundation is excited to declare a call for its scholarships application, aimed at deserving students from African countries who aspire to pursue a master’s degree in Bolivia. This opportunity is designed to provide a platform for academic growth and cultural exchange, allowing students to broaden their perspectives and learn from a diverse range of experiences. 

The scholarships offer a unique chance for students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and network while also immersing themselves in a new and vibrant culture. The scholarships also provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes tuition, living expenses, health insurance, and a generous allowance for research and fieldwork. It also provides opportunities to participate in events and activities that promote cultural exchange and understanding. These activities may include seminars, conferences, and other networking events. The scholarships also offer additional support for professional development, such as access to mentors and internships.

The scholarships also provide funding for travel and living expenses to attend conferences, workshops, or other events related to research or professional development. Students may also have the opportunity to receive a stipend for additional research or fieldwork.`It aims to support successful candidates with tuition fees and living expenses during their studies in Bolivia. Additionally, the scholarship covers return airfare by the most economical route, facilitating travel from the country of origin at the beginning of the studies and back upon successful completion.

We seek African students who have completed a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a renowned institution of higher learning and are now willing to pursue master’s degrees in Bolivia. We are offering two types of awards this year, namely, Academic Excellence Awards and Communal Impact Awards, with over fifty (50) courses made available this year.

Benefits of the Modiza Foundation Scholarships

1). A fully-funded scholarship will cover 100% of tuition fees

2). A monthly allowance for all scholarship recipients ($1600 per month) throughout the duration of study, provided that the awardee meets the departmental CGPA requirements.

3). Shared same-sex accommodation (two per room for singles, one per room for married couples)

4). Reimbursement of a one-way economy flight to Bolivia (only once) as well as a return flight ticket (economy class)

5). 60% of national health insurance, including annual medical check-ups.

6). All MS students participating in research projects will receive a research assistantship of $1000.

7). Opportunity to study at a top Bolivian university without worrying about financial expenses and a chance to explore the Bolivian culture.

The Eligibility Criteria

1). Be a citizen and hold a valid passport (or verifiable means of identification) from one of the 54 countries in Africa.

2). Hold a recognized university bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university in any field.

3). Complete and apply to the online platform on or before the deadline of 11:59 PM (GMT), April 30, 2024.

4). Be ready to commence study in an eligible master’s degree program at a Bolivian university.

5). Not be a current beneficiary of a separate Bolivian University scholarship.

6). Meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee-paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses, if eligibility for the scholarship is not maintained.

Recommendation Letter Guidelines

1). A referee can be an academician, a religious leader, a community leader (or figure), a work supervisor, etc.

2). Each application shall be supported with two (2) recommendation letters. We recommend that each recommendation letter not exceed two (2) pages.

3). All recommendation letters must be written and duly signed by referees on the letterhead of their affiliated institutions.

4). A good recommendation should include the relationship between the referee and applicant, the duration of the relationship, the grade in the course, reports on collaboration or supervision, etc..

5). Applicants can submit recommendation letters on their own. However, referees of successful applicants might be contacted; hence, referees should ensure that they include their functioning emails and contact details.

6). Applicants applying for an Academic Excellence Scholarship must use at least one (1) academic referee.

Other guidelines include:

1). Your personal statement should be between 500 and 1000 words and should, for no reason, exceed two (2) pages.

2). Your personal statement should be authentic and unique to you. It should include an introduction, motivation to apply for this scholarship and for the course chosen, educational background, relevant experience, and how this scholarship aligns with your future goals.

3). We strongly advise that you submit your application on a computer using updated software like Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

4). For no reason should one candidate submit more than one application (using different emails and/or details). Documents will be matched, and all duplicate submissions may lead to disqualification.

5). If, at any point during or after your application submission, it is found that you have deliberately provided false and/or misleading details, your application and/or scholarship will be revoked and cancelled.

Required Documents for Application 

Applicants are mandated to complete and submit an application via the online portal. The following documents are required:

  1. A copy of an international passport or other valid means of identification.
  2. Bachelor Certificate (include an English translation if the original certificate is not in English or French).
  3. Complete official bachelor transcripts (attach an English translation if the original transcript is not in English or French).
  4. Two (2) recommendation letters from referees (follow the recommendation guidelines carefully).
  5. Statement-of-Purpose (a maximum two-page essay focusing on your career and research goals).
  6. Passport-size photo with a single-color background.

Selection Criteria

1). Scholarship offers will be made on only two bases: the basis of academic merit and the basis of communal impact. 2). All academic merit determinations are determined according to the university’s procedures for determining GPA.

3). Successful students will receive notification of the value of their scholarship with their letter of offer and should review the full terms and conditions before accepting the offer.

4). The value of the awarded scholarship, the length of the program, the primary language of instruction, and whether there will be a pre-semester for language classes will all be clearly indicated on the offer letter.

5). Mozida Foundation reserves the right not to award the scholarship

6). There is no age restriction.

7). French, Arabic and English speakers are strongly encouraged to apply, as there is no language preference or restriction

8). Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
