To be eligible for the World Health Organization Internship Programme
Candidates must be enrolled in a university or equivalent institution pursuing a formal qualification in fields relevant to WHO’s technical work, such as public health, medicine, social sciences, management, administration, communications, or external relations. Those who have recently completed their qualifications may also apply within six months of graduation. A minimum of three years of full-time university study at the bachelor’s level or equivalent is required prior to starting the internship.
Proficiency in at least one of the office’s working languages is necessary, and applicants should not have any family relations with current WHO staff members. Additionally, candidates must hold a valid passport from a WHO Member State.
Furthermore, applicants should not have previously participated in the WHO Internship Programme to be considered for selection. These criteria aim to ensure that interns possess the necessary academic background, language skills, and independence from familial or organizational ties to contribute effectively to WHO’s projects and initiatives.
Benefits of WHO Internships
Starting from January 2020, interns at the World Health Organization (WHO) have the opportunity to receive financial assistance. The maximum amount available varies depending on the internship position and the location of the duty station. In some cases, interns may receive meal vouchers specifically tailored to the business days (Monday to Friday) or a cash allowance for lunch expenses during these days. For instance, interns stationed in Geneva are provided with daily lunch vouchers valued at CHF 15, which are redeemable at WHO cafeterias.
Furthermore, select interns from least developed and middle-income countries may have their travel costs covered by WHO.

To apply for an internship at WHO, all candidates must utilize the internship position vacancy notices available on the WHO Careers website and apply through the WHO online recruitment system known as Stellis. It is important to note that applications made outside of Stellis will not be considered.
