This scholarship is designed to support forced migrants or those granted temporary leave to remain in the UK due to an asylum claim. Its aim is to eliminate financial obstacles that prevent talented individuals from accessing postgraduate education.
The University of Sussex will provide:

- A living cost grant of £16,440

Eligiblity Criteria
To be eligible, you must:
- Be currently residing in the UK
- Have received an offer to study a Master’s degree starting in September 2025 at the University of Sussex
- AND fall under one of the following categories:
- You (or your parent/guardian) have submitted an asylum application to the UK Home Office
- You have been granted limited leave to remain, discretionary leave, or humanitarian protection as a result of an asylum claim
- You are the partner or child of an asylum seeker or an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child
- Have a household income of less than £35,000 per year
- Be ineligible for UK government student loans (e.g., Student Finance England) due to your immigration status
This scholarship is ideal for:
- Individuals or families affected by the UK asylum process
- Those determined to continue their academic journey despite their immigration challenges
- Students who demonstrate a strong academic background and clear financial need
Eligible Fields
All EXECPT the following programs are eligible for the scholarship:
- Postgraduate Certificates and Diplomas (e.g., PGCE)
- Courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
- Programs at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS)
- Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status)
- Social Work degrees funded by the NHS
- Online or distance learning courses
- School Direct teaching pathways
- Research Council–funded Master’s programs (e.g., ESRC 1+3)
- Courses offered by partner institutions such as the International Study Centre (ISC)
Selection Criteria
Selection is based on:
- Immigration status and background
- Demonstrated financial need
- Ineligibility for government student support
Decisions will be made and communicated before July 2025.

You must submit documentation to prove:
- Your immigration status (asylum claim, limited leave, etc.)
- Your current UK residence
- Household income (under £35,000)
- Your University of Sussex offer letter for a Master’s course
