Here is a New update on Chevening Scholarship
Latest update on Chevening Scholarshihp application for already applied candidates and those yet to apply
The selection department for the Chevening Scholarships programme issued an important Chevening Scholarship Update on Language Requirement for applicants for the previous application session.
This Update applied to those applicants who will apply for the Chevening Scholarship program for the academic year
The guidance was issued in light of the Covid-19 outbreak in which IELTS centers closed in many countries or due to the fact that applicants could not travel to center locations due to travel restrictions. Before the covid-19 outbreak, applicants were required to meet Chevening’s English language requirement.
Applicants had to take an English language test and their ere usually responsible for booking and paying for costs associated with these tests. The English language tests that were accepted usually were from from five providers:
Academic IELTS (paper or computer-based)
Pearson PTE Academic
TOEFL iBT
C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English: Advanced [CAE])
Trinity ISE II (B2)
What the new Guideline say
With the new guidance, Chevening does not have an English language requirement any more. Chevening issued the following update
We are aware that a large number of English language test centres around the world are currently closed, and that many candidates will not be able to take a test before July.
Therefore, the Chevening English language requirement has been removed for applicants applying to study. You will not need to provide evidence that you meet the Chevening English language requirement to be eligible for an award.
Candidates will still need to meet the requirements of their chosen university and secure an unconditional offer from one of their three course choices by the Chevening deadline.
What this means for you
However, applicants were and are still required to meet all admission language requirements at the time of application to their preferred Universities. most UK universities recognized the challenges in regards to the language requirement and since expanded their list of acceptable tests including the following.
Taking an online English test
Proof of your language proficiency by presenting your high school score in English language
If you did your first degree (bachelors) in English or in a country where English is widely used, you may not be required to prove your proficiency
You may also be exempted if you took an English language course during you undergraduate studies
Some universities are accepting other English proficiency tests other than the common officially regarded tests
What you should do?
Applicants are advised that, as they wait for the official application process for the 2021/2022 session to open, they should take some time and contact the universities that they plan to apply to and inquire on any new guidelines set up by the universities as well as the different policies they have set up regarding the English language requirement.
Please also note that test centers all around the world have also come up with ingenious ways to help and support you take the English language test, and at the same time follow the Covid-19 guideline put on place.
