Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for our fully funded PhD program, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of a Master’s degree in Education or an equivalent advanced-level credential with first-class standing (A- or 80% or higher) from a recognized university.
  • Professional experience in education or a related field is considered an asset.

PhD Funding Coverage

We offer competitive funding packages to our PhD students based on academic merit. These packages may include scholarships, fellowships, external awards, research assistantships, teaching assistantships, or graduate teaching fellowships.

For eligible full-time PhD students, the minimum guaranteed funding package is $20,000 per year for the first 12 terms, with many students receiving additional funding opportunities. Those who secure a Graduate Teaching Fellowship, Teaching, and/or Research Assistantship typically receive an average funding of approximately $25,000 per year.

Application Process

Applications to our graduate programs open in September for admission the following year. To apply for the PhD program, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the School of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs website.
  2. Complete the online application, including the application fee.
  3. Submit the following documents to educgrad@queensu.ca:
    • A completed and signed electronic version of the Research Proposal Form
    • An electronic PDF copy of your résumé or curriculum vitae

Make sure to complete your application by the deadline, which is January 15. Late applications are not considered. Our program starts in September each year.
