About the University of Ghana TDR Postgraduate Scholarship

The University of Ghana School of Public Health, in collaboration with TDR (the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases), is inviting applications for the 2025–2026 academic year. This fully funded postgraduate scholarship supports a Master’s degree in Public Health or Applied Health Social Science with a strong focus on Implementation Research (IR). The program aims to build capacity in IR to address global health challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) within the WHO African region.

Funded by TDR, a global program co-sponsored by UNICEF, UNDP, the World Bank, and WHO, this scholarship provides full financial support to outstanding students who are committed to contributing to health system improvements in Africa.

Eligible Fields

The scholarship is available for students pursuing:

  • Master of Public Health (MPH) – Social and Behavioral Sciences
  • Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Health Social Science

Eligible Countries

Applicants must be nationals of English-speaking countries within the WHO African region.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a national of, and resident in, an English-speaking country within the WHO African region.
  • Be 37 years old or younger at the time of application.
  • Meet the University of Ghana’s standard admission requirements for graduate students (international or local).
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be employed by an academic or research institution, a non-profit organization, or a ministry of health or its agencies within an LMIC in the WHO Africa region.
  • Have identified a local supervisor or mentor before commencing the program.
  • Possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Academic merit and professional background.
  • Relevance of their work to Implementation Research in public health.
  • Quality of their personal statement and motivation for pursuing the program.
  • Gender balance and geographical representation.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for further assessment, which may include aptitude tests and interviews. Successful candidates will receive an offer letter from the University of Ghana and must confirm their acceptance within seven (7) calendar days. The University of Ghana reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship if any falsified information is discovered in an application.

  • Round-trip economy airfare between the student’s home country and Accra, Ghana.
  • Tuition and academic fees for the entire duration of the program.

  • A monthly stipend to cover living expenses for one person while in Accra.
  • Financial support for research dissertation expenses.

How to Apply

To apply for the University of Ghana TDR Postgraduate Scholarship, follow these steps carefully:

Step 1: Apply for Admission to the University of Ghana

  • Visit the University of Ghana’s official admissions webpage.
  • Read the admission requirements and application guidelines.
  • Select “APPLY NOW” when ready to begin the application process.
  • Choose either Master of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences) or MSc in Applied Health Social Science.

Step 2: Complete the University of Ghana Online Application

  • If you are a Ghanaian applicant, select “GHANAIAN APPLICANT”.
  • If you are an international applicant, select “INTERNATIONAL APPLICANT”.
  • Create an account, log in, and complete the application process.

Step 3: Apply for the TDR Scholarship

  • After successfully submitting your University of Ghana application, visit the TDR Postgraduate Scholarship application portal.
  • Log in using your University of Ghana application serial number and PIN.
  • Complete all required fields and upload necessary documents.
  • Select your chosen program (Master of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences) or MSc in Applied Health Social Science).
  • Ensure all required documents are submitted before finalizing your application.

Important Note: Only applications that complete all three steps will be processed for further review.

The deadline to submit applications is May 4, 2025.
