UN Sustainable Development and Economic Affairs is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns work five days per week  (40 hours) under the supervision of a designated staff member in their assigned office.  Intern responsibilities will primarily center around researching on areas of sustainable development and international development  c, in preparation for the 9th North-East Asia Multistakeholder Forum on SDGs and/or the 12th North-East Asia Development Cooperation Forum.

UN Sustainable Development and Economic Affairs Duties and Responsibilities 

The internship opportunity at the ESCAP Subregional Office for East and North-East Asia (SRO-ENEA) located in Songdo, Incheon, Republic of Korea, spans a minimum duration of two months, with the possibility of extension up to six months as deemed necessary by the office.   

The interns will also contribute to the planning and implementation of the follow-up activities.  Duties include a range of tasks, including but not limited to: 

• Reviewing and analyzing literature and policies related to SDGs progress and Development Cooperation of the subregion; 

• Assisting in the implementation of events/meetings organized by the office with a specific focus on  Sustainable Development aspects; 

• Providing support in drafting and preparing official documents for the 9th North-East Asia Multistakeholder Forum on SDGs and/or the 12th North-East Asia Development Cooperation Forum; 

• Support the logistical and substantive aspects of the events and liaise with partners and resources persons as needed

UN Sustainable Development and Economic Affairs Qualifications 

Applicants to the UN Sustainable Development and Economic Affairsare not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. 

Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme:  

(a) Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in economics, sustainable development, social studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) 

(b) Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in economics, sustainable development, social studies (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). 

(c)  Possess good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Teams.  

(d) Capable of drafting news articles and/or social media posts (desired). 

(e) Skilled in designing surveys and polls (desired).  Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.

Language 

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
