
About IMF Internship Program 2026
The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Internship Program (FIP) may be the right opportunity for you if you are looking for an exciting and challenging internship at a prestigious, international financial institution.
The IMF works to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty.
IMF Internship Program 2026 Program recruits for the FIP on a global basis with approximately 50 students from around the world joining us each year at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C.
These paid internships take place between June and October and run for 10 to 12 weeks.

IMF Internship Program 2026 Available Positions
Legal Department Internship
Interns in the Legal Department will work under senior IMF lawyers on projects that align with the department’s work program. Past research areas include:
- Corruption and its impact on sovereign lending and debt restructuring
- Insider trading and financial regulation
- International monetary and financial law
- Digital currency and AML/CFT frameworks
- Cross-border payments and financial integrity
- Sanctions and governance frameworks
Eligibility
- Within 1–2 years of completing an LL.M., J.D., or equivalent law degree
- Must be a current student returning to university after an internship
- Under 32 years old
- Excellent English (written and oral)
- Strong quantitative and computer skills

B. Economist Internship
Interns work under IMF economists on research and policy analysis related to macroeconomics, global growth, and sustainable finance. Projects may culminate in a published research paper. Past participants have contributed to IMF country analyses and macroeconomic modelling.
Eligibility
- PhD student in macroeconomics or a related field
- Within 1–2 years of completing a PhD
- Must be in student status after internship
- Under 32 years old (exceptions for mandatory military service)
- Excellent English (written and oral)
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and computer skills
