The University of Edinburgh is offering a unique scholarship opportunity to medical professionals from low- and middle-income countries who wish to pursue advanced training in internal medicine. Through its MSc Internal Medicine (Online Learning) programme, the university will award five scholarships that cover 66% of tuition fees (valued at £4,204) for the 2025–2026 academic year.

These scholarships are open to both new and continuing students who demonstrate academic excellence and a strong commitment to healthcare development in their home countries.

This scholarship opportunity is designed to support professionals enrolled in the MSc Internal Medicine (Online Learning) programme at the University of Edinburgh. It is open to candidates pursuing the:

  • MSc in Internal Medicine (Part-time)
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Internal Medicine (Part-time)
  • Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Internal Medicine (Part-time)

The scholarship aims to promote access to world-class education for clinicians in eligible countries and to foster international knowledge exchange and capacity building in the field of internal medicine.

Each of the five scholarships available will cover 66% of the total tuition fee cost, amounting to approximately £4,204, and will be valid for one academic year only.

Eligible Fields

This scholarship is exclusively available to students enrolled in the following online, part-time programmes:

  • MSc in Internal Medicine
  • PgDip in Internal Medicine
  • PgCert in Internal Medicine

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be newly admitted or currently enrolled in one of the eligible Internal Medicine online programmes
  • Have accepted or intend to accept their admission offer
  • Be domiciled and working in a low- or middle-income country (as defined by the University of Edinburgh)
  • Be able to submit a strong personal statement outlining academic achievements and potential healthcare impact
  • Understand that the scholarship covers only one academic year, and multi-year programme students must plan for future funding independently

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on:

  • Academic merit
  • A compelling personal statement demonstrating:
    • The applicant’s role in their country’s healthcare system
    • How the programme and scholarship will improve their professional capacity
    • A commitment to contributing to healthcare development in their country after graduation

Eligible Countries

Applicants must be domiciled and employed in a low- or middle-income country, as defined by the University of Edinburgh. In exceptional cases, the university may consider candidates displaced by war or political unrest, even if they are not currently living in their home country.

How to Apply

  2. After submitting your admission application, wait up to five working days for system checks to complete and access to be granted.
  3. Once access is available, log into the MyEd portal at https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk.
  4. Complete and submit the scholarship application via the EUCLID system, accessible through MyEd.

Note: Scholarship applications will only be considered if the applicant has already applied for and received an admission offer.
