About the Manaaki New Zealand Short-Term Training Scholarship 2025
Applications are now open for Manaaki New Zealand Short-Term Training Scholarship 2025. The New Zealand International Development Cooperation Programme, on behalf of the New Zealand Government, is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of scholarships for professional development opportunities. These scholarships are open to professionals from eligible countries who are interested in enhancing their skills through online or in-person programs in New Zealand. The scholarships for the years 2024 and 2025 are being offered in partnership with Skills Group, and they aim to provide a unique learning experience in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
One of the exciting opportunities available is a professional development course offered online over a four-week period. The course is designed to accommodate professionals’ schedules, with two three-hour sessions per week. It will be conducted by the prestigious University of Auckland’s Public Policy Institute. While the course does not lead to a formal tertiary qualification, it promises to offer valuable insights into New Zealand’s best practices and approaches in various sectoral study areas.
As an example, the Trade Policy course, a part-time online program, is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 16, 2024, and conclude on Friday, October 18, 2024. This presents a fantastic opportunity for professionals to gain valuable knowledge and skills in the field of trade policy within an international context.
Eligibility Criteria
- Citizens from South Africa and other eligible countries who are currently in middle and senior management positions;
- Officials with at least 5 years work experience in the relevant course sector;
- Participants with a basic level of computer literacy and numeracy;
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of the start of the scholarship;
- From the date of application, have lived in the country of citizenship for the last two years or more;
- Exception for diplomatic corps and their family: Be a member of the diplomatic corps or a dependant of a member of the diplomatic corps, living outside their own country;
- Not be a citizen or permanent resident of any of the following countries:
New Zealand, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, any European Union country, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom or the United States of America; - Not be currently serving in the military;
- Within the last five years, not have had a New Zealand Scholarship terminated.
You must also acknowledge and agree that:
- You have received an endorsement from your employer to attend this training program, and that includes:
- Meet the academic entry requirements (including English language requirements) for the planned training programme.
Eligible Countries
ASEAN is comprised of the following countries: Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Burma, the Philippines, Viet Nam, and Cambodia.
Scholarships for the Public Sector Leadership (mid-level) course are available to citizens of Brunei and Singapore.
Students interested in studying Food and Agribusiness Value Chains can apply for scholarships from Brunei and Singapore.
The Pacific region includes the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, and Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, and Palau.
Africa: Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe; Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria.
Latin America and the Caribbean: Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela; Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina; Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Bolivia; Brazil; Colombia; Costa Rica; Cuba; Dominica, Dominican Republic; Etc.

For the years 2024 and 2025, a limited number of scholarships are available for individuals seeking professional development, with the option to pursue studies either online or in New Zealand. - Certified duplicates of your passport’s inner pages (or, in the absence of a passport, another acceptable form of picture identification).
- Certified records of your scores from tests of your proficiency in English conducted within the last 18 months, such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS),.
