Introduction to the Medical Research Foundation Launchpad Grants in Mental Health
Applications for the Medical Research Foundation Launchpad Grants in Mental Health 2024 are now open. This is a funding call for mental health research.
The Medical Research Foundation is inviting mid-career researchers in the field of mental health to apply for up to £100,000 to support their research. Research that receives funding should advance knowledge of mental health issues and enhance recovery, diagnosis, and treatment. Additionally, it will serve as a springboard for additional research that qualifies for bigger funding opportunities.
We encourage applications in a wide range of mental health research areas. Nonetheless, they especially support applications from underappreciated mental health conditions, such as OCD, borderline personality disorder, trauma-related mental health, and suicide and self-harm. Neurodevelopmental disorders fall within the scope of this competition. Researchers working on ADHD and Tourette’s are especially encouraged to apply.
The funding from Launchpad Grants in Mental Health can be used by applicants to conduct pilot studies, generate data and collaborations, and develop competitive research proposals for larger funding. The proposed research should be focused on mental health in the UK. Prior work leading up to the application doesn’t necessarily have to be entirely UK-based, but the applicant should clearly explain the relevance of the proposed research to mental health in the UK.
Those interested in developing multidisciplinary partnerships with researchers in other fields are particularly encouraged to submit proposals. This will help expand their research networks and build their research profile. The grants can also be used to conduct pilot studies, generate data and collaborations, and develop competitive research proposals for larger funding.
The research they fund is only possible thanks to the generosity of their donors. This competition is supported by a gift in her will from Catherine Mary Evans and numerous other donors.

Clinical academics and applicants with clinical duties are encouraged to apply.
- This competition is for mid-career researchers. Mid-career researchers are those with extensive postdoctoral experience who are in the process of, or ready for, transitioning to research independence.
- Awards funded through this competition will follow standard Medical Research Foundation terms and conditions. The terms and conditions spell out the responsibilities of the principal investigator and the lead research organization. The principal investigator and the lead research organization are required to indicate their formal acceptance of the proposal, their acceptance of the terms and conditions of an award, and their approval of the salaries and resources sought in the application.
- The Medical Research Foundation may add additional conditions to a grant award to reflect the particular circumstances and requirements of the funding or the nature of a particular award. Acceptance of an award constitutes acceptance of both the core conditions and any additional conditions. The Medical Research Foundation reserves the right to vary these terms and conditions.
