About the John Allwright Fellowship 2026
The John Allwright Fellowship (JAF) is a prestigious, fully funded scholarship program that supports scientists and economists from ACIAR partner countries in pursuing Master’s by Research or PhD degrees at Australian tertiary institutions. This initiative aims to strengthen scientific research capabilities, foster international collaboration, and support research that addresses global agricultural and environmental challenges.
As the largest investment in ACIAR’s Capacity Development Program, the JAF enhances researchers’ skills, enabling them to make significant contributions to sustainable development in their home countries. Currently, there are over 39 JAF scholars enrolled across 15 Australian universities.
Aligned with ACIAR’s Gender Equity Policy and Strategy, the fellowship ensures gender parity, with at least half of the new JAF scholars being women.
Recognizing the growing impact of climate change on agriculture, fisheries, and food systems, the 2026 JAF intake prioritizes research that addresses:
- Climate change adaptation
- Resilience-building in agricultural systems
- Sustainable food production under changing environmental conditions
Applicants are encouraged to integrate climate change considerations into their proposed research topics.
