Selection Criteria for the Southern Urbanism Scholarships 2024-2025
The candidates who have fulfilled the formal DAAD criteria as well as the host institution’s admission requirements will be pre-selected, screened, and placed on a short list by the University of Cape Town. A comprehensive report encompassing the shortlisting process, the ranked shortlist, and the members of the shortlisting panel will be made available to DAAD as well. Three times, or at least twice, as many scholarships as the institution is credited with will be on the ranked shortlist.
For the scholarships in 2024, an impartial selection committee comprised of international university professors, experts, and alumni from German and foreign universities will evaluate the applications ranked by the institution in the pre-selection phase before making a final decision. The applications are assessed by an independent selection committee that takes into account the institution’s pre-selection ranking in addition to the materials that have been submitted. Academic achievement and calibre, extracurricular activities, motivation, and the topic’s applicability to the research are among the areas assessed.
How To Apply for the Southern Urbanism Scholarships 2024-2025

After receiving the applications, DAAD will review them according to their selection criteria. Please note that the University of Cape Town has set its deadline for the admission process. Important Note: Some universities in Sub-Saharan Africa need a special paper called a “Qualifications Authority” document for admission. This document can take a long time to get, so it’s important to ask for it early.
The University of Cape Town will look at all the applications and pick the best ones that follow the rules. They will send a report to DAAD with all the chosen applications.
DAAD will check the applications again and pick the best ones. They will look at things like how well the person did in school, what they did outside of school, and what they want to study.
DAAD has the final say on which applications get picked.
