About the ABSA SAICA Trainee Accountant Program

Have you heard about the SAICA Trainee Accountant Program? It is an incredible opportunity for aspiring accountants to gain the necessary experience and competencies needed to qualify as efficient and competent professionals. The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) program is designed to provide handpicked SAICA trainees with a comprehensive 3-year training contract that incorporates rotating trainees, for 6 to 8 months at a time, into business areas across the bank that can provide the appropriate training.

This hands-on training approach helps trainees acquire the required skills and knowledge, which is essential for becoming successful accountant. The SAICA Trainee Accountant Program aims to groom young professionals to be industry leaders and shape the future of the accounting industry in South Africa. Applications for this program are now open, so if you’re interested in pursuing a career in the accounting field, this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss!

At Absa, we understand the importance of your personal and professional development as a SAICA trainee. To ensure your growth, we offer a comprehensive training program that includes both technical and soft skill training, which will form the backbone of your day-to-day job. Moreover, we provide you with additional support, such as coaching, mentoring, and conference attendance, to further cement your growth. As part of the wider Absa Graduate Program (Gen A), you’ll have access to a variety of learning programs that will help you hone your skills and advance your career.

We understand that our trainees are the future leaders of our organization. Therefore, our Executive Committee (Exco) takes pride in supporting and nurturing your growth. To facilitate this, we organize quarterly Trainee engagement sessions where you’ll have the opportunity to network with the Leadership of the Bank. Furthermore, our association with the Gen A program will provide ample networking opportunities across the Bank at all levels.

As part of our commitment to your success, we offer financial assistance for exam fees and tuition for the SAICA board exams, which are fundamental to your success. We also provide generous study leave benefits that are specific to the program, ensuring that you have the time and resources to excel.

Upon successful completion of the 3-year practical experience and the SAICA exams, you’ll be a well-rounded Chartered Accountant (South Africa) (CA (SA)) with an exciting career trajectory ahead of you.
