About the Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Kenya Program
The Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Kenya Program is a highly coveted opportunity for female entrepreneurs in Kenya. This program is brought to you in partnership with Strathmore University’s @iBizAfrica incubator. It is designed to empower women in technology and provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed in the tech industry.
As one of Africa’s leading women-in-tech incubators, the Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Kenya responds to the call for more diversity in technology and for more opportunities for women to develop entrepreneurial and leadership excellence. The program is an initiative of Standard Chartered, a renowned multinational financial institution, in collaboration with Strathmore University @iBizAfrica, a leading private university in Kenya.
The program offers world-class startup support, local and international experience, and Africa’s most competitive and attractive startup incubation program. It focuses on immersive learning, mentorship, and building and growing Africa’s next iconic startups that will take on the continent’s most relevant challenges and opportunities. The incubator program is designed to provide female entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to develop technologies that will shape the future of Africa and beyond.
Eligibility Criteria
We are looking to fill the Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Kenya Program with the brightest minds in entrepreneurship. Women-led startup teams that use technology as a major source of innovation in business are the target audience. The candidate needs to:
- be a woman
- be the CEO with equal or majority ownership in the company
- 18 and above
- of Kenyan nationality
Other criteria include:
- The startups need to be established businesses with Kenyan registrations that are developing technological solutions to lessen socioeconomic difficulties in Kenya.
- The chosen startup projects can be industry-neutral.
- In their respective industries, startups need to incorporate elements of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, big data, robotics, machine learning, augmented and virtual reality, 3D and 4D printing, cloud computing, blockchain, drone technology, biometrics, and more into their solution architecture.
- The teams submitting applications must consist of at least 50% women and be women-led startups.
- The founder holding the majority stake must be the principal applicant.
- Operating for three months to less than two years, looking for assistance with developing business models, customers, products, and proof of concept.
- Early traction (users) and pre-revenue. An additional benefit is post-revenue.
- Not received over KES 500,000 in investment and not taken part in a comparable program within the last year.
- Businesses addressing any one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Participants must be physically available to attend the program over the three-month incubation period.
- Participant accommodation costs are not catered for
