About the University of British Columbia (UBC) Scholarships for International Students

- Valued at $10,000 to $20,000 CAD per year, renewable for up to four years of study.
- Recipients are selected based on academic merit, leadership, and community involvement.
2. Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award
- A one-time scholarship awarded to high-achieving international students who demonstrate academic excellence and extracurricular engagement.
- Award amounts range from $10,000 to $25,000 CAD.
- Awarded upon admission; there is no need to apply separately.

You are automatically considered for these scholarships if you apply for admission by the deadline.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for either of the UBC merit-based international scholarships (IMES or OIS), applicants must:
- Be applying to UBC for the first time.
- Be entering UBC directly from secondary school (for IMES) or from secondary school or a post-secondary institution (for OIS).
- Be an international student who will study in Canada on a valid study permit (student visa).
- Demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, as well as involvement in extracurricular or community-based activities.
- Not be nominated for the need-and-merit-based UBC International Scholars Program.
- Submit a complete application for admission to UBC by the university’s stated deadline.
Selection Criteria
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
- Academic performance
- Leadership potential
- Community service or extracurricular involvement
- Personal achievements
There is no separate scholarship application. All international applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and apply to UBC will be automatically considered. Only those selected for an award will be contacted.
