About the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders 

Application is now open for the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders Program in Central Asia and South Caucasus.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) was established in 2005 to promote mutual respect among diverse cultural and religious communities. UNAOC’s initiatives focus on youth, education, media, migration, and women as peace mediators, aiming to reduce polarization and build bridges between communities.

Are you passionate about building inclusive societies and tackling violent extremism? If you’re between 18 and 25 years old, a citizen or resident of the South Caucasus and Central Asia (SCCA), and eager to engage in intercultural learning and peacebuilding, apply now for the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders programme. 

This fully funded opportunity will help you enhance your peacebuilding skills and connect with a network of young peace advocates from the region.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders Program, you must:

  • Be aged 18-25 for the project’s duration (born between September 1999 and September 2006).
  • Be a citizen of or currently residing in one of the following SCCA countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
  • Be active in a youth-led organization, network, or initiative.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to peace, diversity, and nonviolence.
  • Have sufficient command of English to participate in online and in-person activities.
  • Hold a valid international passport (valid until at least April 2026).

Programme Overview and Timeline

Programme Phases

  1. Online Phase (3-4 months):
    • Engage with peers and trainers through an online platform.
    • Complete modules on peacebuilding tools and concepts.
    • Time commitment: 4-5 hours per week.
  2. Face-to-Face Workshop (7-8 days):
    • Travel to a designated location for intensive training.
    • Develop an action plan for peace initiatives.
  3. Applied Learning (3-5 months):
    • Implement a personal peace project with guidance from UNAOC trainers.
    • Stay connected with peers and mentors.
  4. Results Sharing Symposium (2-4 days):
    • Share experiences and achievements with a broader audience.
    • Engage in discussions on intercultural dialogue and peace.

Key Dates

  • May-July 2024: Call for applications
  • Mid-November 2024: Selected participants notified
  • December 2024 – February 2025: Online phase
  • April 2025: Face-to-face workshop
  • May-September 2025: Implementation of peace projects
  • October 2025: Results-sharing symposium

Costs Covered by Organizers

  • Round-trip travel (economy class) to the workshop and symposium.
  • Accommodation during the workshop and symposium.
  • Meals and coffee breaks during official events.
  • Transportation to/from the airport and hotel in the host cities.

Costs Covered by Participants

  • Transportation to/from the airport in your country of residence.
  • Personal and incidental expenses during the workshop and symposium

UNAOC Young Peacebuilders Selection Process

Participants for the UNAOC Young Peacebuilders program will be selected based on:

  • Motivation and Contribution: Demonstrated commitment to the programme.
  • Interest in Themes: Experience or interest in peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue.
  • Experience and Potential: Early-stage involvement in peacebuilding with specific goals.
  • Outreach Capacity: Ability to disseminate learnings to a broader community.
  • Future Impact: Commitment to continue peace initiatives post-programme.
