About the Tokyo University Amgen Scholars Program 2025
The Amgen Scholars Program is an internationally recognized initiative that connects undergraduate students with elite research institutions worldwide, including the University of Tokyo (UTokyo). For eight weeks, participants engage in full-time research, gaining valuable skills while working alongside leading scientists. The program is especially beneficial for students considering graduate studies in biology or related fields. In addition to lab work, scholars will attend seminars, use UTokyo’s facilities, and participate in cultural excursions to immerse themselves in Japanese life and broaden their perspectives.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an institution in the Asia region* that offers a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Have completed at least one year of undergraduate study by the start of the summer program.
- Not be graduating before the program begins, and plan to continue undergraduate studies for at least one semester or quarter after it ends.
- Maintain a strong academic record.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English, with the following minimum scores if English is not their native language:
- TOEFL iBT: 72
- IELTS: 5.5 overall
- Cambridge English FCE
- TOEIC: 1095 or TOEIC L&R score of 785 and TOEIC S&W score of 310
- Show a strong interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical or related sciences.

Program Benefits
