The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship was created by the Hungarian Government to strengthen Hungary’s global academic ties and cultural exchange.

Eligibility Criteria for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026
To qualify for the 2026 Government of Hungary Scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an eligible country under the Stipendium Hungaricum bilateral agreements.
- Be 18 years or older as of August 31, 2025.
- Not hold dual citizenship with Hungary or be a Hungarian citizen.
- Not currently studying in Hungary on a self-financed basis.
- Not have previously received the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship.

The Stipendium Hungaricum provides a comprehensive financial package covering all major study-related expenses:
For Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, and Non-Degree Programs:
Tuition-Free Education: Full exemption from tuition fees.
Monthly Stipend: HUF 43,700 (≈ €110) per month for living expenses throughout the academic year.
Accommodation Support:
- Free dormitory placement or
- HUF 40,000/month (≈ €100) housing allowance for off-campus accommodation.
(Note: In larger cities like Budapest, this allowance may not cover full rent.) - Health Insurance: Full access to Hungarian healthcare services and an additional medical insurance coverage of up to HUF 65,000 (≈ €170) per year.
For Doctoral Programs:
- Tuition-Free Education: Exemption from tuition fees.
- Monthly Stipend:
- HUF 140,000 (≈ €365) per month for the first 4 semesters,
- HUF 180,000 (≈ €470) per month for the second 4 semesters.
- Accommodation Support: As above — either a free dormitory place or a HUF 40,000/month housing contribution.
- Health Insurance: Access to health services and up to HUF 65,000 (≈ €170) annual medical insurance.

Applicants must prepare and upload clear, scanned copies of the following documents in the online application system:
- Completed online application form.
- Motivation Letter (written in the language of the chosen study program).
- Proof of language proficiency (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) and its translation.
- Educational certificates and transcripts, with official English translations.
- Medical certificate (not older than six months).
- National ID card or valid passport copy.
- Signed Statement for Application (available in the online system).
- For PhD applicants:
- Research plan
- Letter of recommendation
- Statement from the supervisor or Hungarian host institution
- For arts or music programs:
