About the Sexual Violence Research Initiative

The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is now inviting applications for innovative research and interventions aimed at preventing and responding to violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC), along with other forms of gender inequality-driven violence in low- and middle-income countries.

Purpose of the SVRI Research Grant

The SVRI is dedicated to fostering research and practice partnerships that are diverse, inclusive, and primarily led by researchers and practitioners from low- and middle-income countries.

The goal is to advance knowledge on improving responses to and preventing VAW and VAC.

Commitment to Feminist Principles

SVRI’s grant-making process is rooted in feminist principles, addressing power imbalances between donors and researchers, and promoting equitable research partnerships.

The SVRI seeks research that is priority-driven and impactful, fostering leadership among researchers from low- and middle-income countries.

Since the inception of Sexual Violence Research Initiative in 2012, SVRI has supported various research initiatives. Notably, from 2013, the SVRI Grant was formally launched, and between 2015-2020, SVRI collaborated with the World Bank Group and Wellspring Philanthropic Fund to co-fund the SVRI WBG Development Marketplace Awards.

In 2021, partnerships with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Wellspring Philanthropic Fund led to the establishment of the SVRI Research Grant: Knowledge for Action to End Violence Against Women and Violence Against Children.
