Deutsche Welle (DW), a leading international broadcaster, is seeking skilled and enthusiastic multimedia journalists (f/m/d) proficient in English to join their African dynamic team. These exciting positions are available in three vibrant locations: Abuja, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; and Nairobi, Kenya. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2024, or as soon as possible, and the successful candidates will be offered freelance contracts with a duration of two years.
DW’s English for Africa Desk is specifically looking for talented multimedia journalists with a deep passion for storytelling and a keen eye for capturing news stories in captivating video formats. The ideal candidates will have the ability to produce engaging news stories and reports directly from the ground.
Whether you specialize in covering breaking news or producing compelling feature stories, DW is eager to hear from individuals who can bring their unique perspectives and talents to the team. The multimedia journalists for this role will have the exciting opportunity to report directly from the field, and, as such, must be willing and prepared to work from one of the following locations: Abuja, Nigeria; Accra, Ghana; or Nairobi, Kenya. Eligibility Criteria
- Completed university studies in journalism and has experience in multimedia broadcasting and editorial operations in areas such as social media, web video and mobile reporting, as well as online journalism.
- An understanding of social media as a news-gathering tool (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook), as well as a confident ability to analyze trends and issues related to social media
- strong digital media skills and experience creating formats
- outstanding narrative abilities for texts and videos of different lengths, as well as the capacity to suggest unique subjects; familiarity with Adobe Premiere is a plus.
- thorough understanding of the political, social, economic, and cultural landscape of Africa today
- broad understanding of current events and international politics; familiarity with the political, economic, and cultural landscape of Germany and Europe
- respect for diversity, a high degree of intercultural sensitivity, and the capacity to work in multidisciplinary and diverse teams
- very strong command of the English language, along with at least one other language that is pertinent to the area; fluency in German is a plus

Applicants will be evaluated based on their qualifications, storytelling skills, experience in digital media, ability to collaborate in diverse teams, commitment to DW values, and stance against discrimination.
