About the J-Pal Africa Internship Program

Are you passionate about social policy, research, and education? Do you want to gain hands-on experience with a globally recognized research organization? J-PAL Africa is offering a unique opportunity for paid internships in policy, research, and education across several locations in Africa, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Accra, and Nairobi—or even remotely, depending on your nationality and the team’s needs.

J-PAL Africa is dedicated to tackling global social challenges through evidence-based policy solutions. The internship program is designed to offer young African changemakers the chance to gain valuable experience in research, policy development, and educational outreach. Interns will work closely with J-PAL’s Education, Research, and Policy teams to contribute to ongoing projects that influence social policy across the continent.

Internships are available across a wide range of focus areas, such as Education Policy, Digital Identification and Finance, Research, and Education & Training. Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To be eligible for the J-PAL Africa Internship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Background: Applicants should be pursuing or have completed a degree in Economics, Statistics, Development, or a related field. Final-year students are also encouraged to apply.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have completed MicroMasters courses in Data, Economics, and Policy Design, with competitive grades.
  • Passion for Social Change: A demonstrated interest in social policy and development research is crucial. Interns will be expected to contribute actively to projects that aim to influence policy and improve social outcomes.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and attention-to-detail skills are necessary for success in this fast-paced, impactful environment.
  • Language Skills: While proficiency in French is not mandatory, it is considered a valuable asset, especially for roles that involve regional collaboration in Francophone Africa.
  • Nationality: Applicants must be nationals of a Sub-Saharan African country.
