You can use your skills to enhance equal access to vital resources and opportunities for all people. Participating can help you win prizes and demonstrate that AI can be trusted and used responsibly.
Started in 2018, Call for Code is the world’s largest tech-for-good initiative of its kind. We encourage developers and problem-solvers from universities, startups, and enterprises worldwide to create and contribute to innovative technology solutions that address social and humanitarian issues. IBM is inviting all university students, developers, and problem solvers to join Call for Code. Throughout the year, there are several ways to get involved, from the annual Global Challenge to additional events and ongoing open-source projects. Participate in the ways that suit you best and develop your skills while making a meaningful change. While assembling your team, consider problem-solvers with varied experience to design unique and impactful solutions. There are many ways to build a great team, but the most successful teams bring together diverse skill sets.
Benefits of the Call for Code Global Challenge For AI Tech Solutions
The Call for Code competition is open to teams of 1–5 people who wish to showcase their talents and compete for the chance to win some exciting prizes. The grand prize winner will receive an impressive sum of $50,000 USD, as well as the option for solution implementation support from the Call for Code ecosystem. Additionally, there is also an opportunity for open source support from The Linux Foundation.
The first runner-up will receive $25,000 USD and an opportunity for open source support from The Linux Foundation. The second runner-up will receive $10,000 USD and an opportunity for open source support from The Linux Foundation as well.
University teams aren’t left out either. The top-scoring university team’s school(s) will be awarded a university grant of $30,000 USD. Furthermore, any university students in the top three winning teams are eligible to explore IBM job opportunities and have the option of being matched with an IBM mentor.
Apart from the prizes, participants will have access to expert technical mentors, training resources, and events, allowing them to develop and enhance their AI, cloud, and other emerging tech skills.
Selection Criteria
The following criteria will be used to score each submission: a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 20 points. The average of the judges’ scores will be the final score.
- Completeness and transferability (5 points)
- Effectiveness and efficiency (5 points)
- Design and usability (5 points)
- Creativity and innovation (5 points)
Competition Timeline
- Challenge start date: 8 March, 2024
- Challenge submissions due: October 17, 2024
- Challenge winners announced: December 2024
