This program provides direct support to graduate students pursuing their PhD and pairs them with a Google Research Mentor.

Requirements
Africa, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, East Asia, Europe and the United States: universities must be an accredited research institution that awards research degrees to PhD students in computer science (or an adjacent field).
All regions Students must maintain full-time enrollment in the PhD program throughout the Fellowship period or risk losing the award.
Individuals employed by Google, as well as their spouses, children, and household members, are ineligible.
Students already receiving similar industry awards are also ineligible, though funding from government or non-profit organizations is an exception. Previous recipients of the PhD Fellowship are not eligible for reapplication. Incoming PhD students from Africa, India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia should note that receiving the Fellowship does not guarantee admission to a PhD program. Awardees must apply separately and gain acceptance to a computer science (or related) PhD program at an eligible institution.
The terms of the Fellowship will adhere to the rules and guidelines of the institution where the awardee enrolls for the PhD program.
Benefits
Students are awarded fellowships with monetary prizes, which are provided directly to the university for disbursement to cover the student’s expenses and stipend as needed.
Additionally, each student will be paired with a Google Research Mentor.Fellowship Duration: Up to three yearsFunding: $12,000 to cover stipend and research-related expenses, including travel both domestically and internationally.

For each student nomination, the university will need to provide the following materials in a single, flat PDF file:
1. Student CV with links to website and publications (if available)
2. Brief (1-page) resume/CV of the student’s main PhD program advisor
3. Transcripts (mark sheets) from the first year/semester of Bachelor’s degree to the present
4. Research proposal (up to 3 pages, excluding references)
5. 2-3 letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the nominee’s work (including at least one from the thesis advisor for current PhD students)
6. Student essay response (limited to 350 words) addressing: What impact would receiving this Fellowship have on your education? Describe any circumstances affecting your need for a Fellowship and what educational goals this Fellowship will enable you to accomplish.
