The CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship presents an extraordinary opportunity for scholars passionate about addressing the pressing challenges of climate change and its effects on environmental risks, specifically in relation to heat, flooding, and drought in African cities. This initiative is part of a collaborative project involving Imperial College London, the University of Ghana, the AIMS Research and Innovation Centre (RIC), and other esteemed academic institutions.
As a successful candidate, you will have the unique opportunity to pursue your doctoral studies at either the University of Ghana or AIMS RIC, where you will be engaged in groundbreaking research that aims to create transformative knowledge for tackling climate-related risks. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the CLARITY-Africa PhD Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Geographic Eligibility: Open to applicants from all African countries. However, the University of Ghana only accepts Ghanaian nationals.
- Educational Requirements: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as climate science, demography, economics, geography, environmental science, public health, environmental health, or mathematical and physical sciences.
- Research Focus: Candidates should have a strong interest in conducting research on topics related to heat, flooding, and drought in African cities, as this is the core focus of the CLARITY-Africa project.
- Skills: Familiarity with analytical and statistical methods is highly advantageous.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Research Potential: Applicants must demonstrate the potential for successful research, shown through academic performance and active involvement in relevant academic projects or activities.
- University of Ghana Eligibility: Current Year 1 PhD students at the University of Ghana are also encouraged to apply.

- Statement of Purpose (maximum 2,000 words) detailing your research interests and explaining how the scholarship will contribute to advancing your research career.
- Research Proposal (2 pages) outlining the proposed topic of study and research methodology.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV), including relevant publications, research experience, and academic qualifications.
- Graduate Transcripts: Copies of transcripts from previous academic degrees.
- Graduate Certificates: Copies of your Master’s degree certificate or equivalent qualifications.
- References: Contact details of two academic referees who can provide a strong recommendation for your research capabilities.

- AIMS RIC accepts applications from all African countries.
- University of Ghana only accepts applicants who are Ghanaian nationals.
