About the FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment

The FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework. 

The Forestry Division (NFO) leads FAO’s work in promoting sustainable forest management and providing leadership on the environmental, social and economic dimensions of forestry, including its contributions to poverty reduction and food security and nutrition.

It liaises with Members, civil society and the private sector in aspects ranging from development of effective forest policies to forest conservation and management issues.

The post is located in the Forestry Division (NFO) and based in the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Key Functions of the FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment Position 

The FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment  applicants roles include;

  • Researches and analyzes technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and technology related information, data and statistics and/or related policy issues to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services.
  • Produces a variety of technical information, data, statistics and reports as well as input for technical documents and web pages.
  • Provides technical support/analysis to various assessments, studies and initiatives and provides technical backstopping to field projects.
  • Collaborates in the development of improved/updated tools, systems, processes and databases.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams, and/or leads working groups/teams collaborates with other divisions and agencies on work groups and committees and promotes best practices.
  • Collaborates in, provides technical backstopping to and ensures the quality/effectiveness of capacity development activities within Members such as policy support, organizational development and individual learning events including preparation of related information, learning materials, on-line tools.
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings and conferences and influences partners in stakeholder consultations.
  • Supports resource mobilization activities in accordance with the FAO Corporate Strategy.

Minimum Requirements For The FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment

Requirements for the FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment are;

Advanced university degree in forestry, forest economics, forest engineering or other field related to biodiversity and natural resources management.

Five years of relevant experience in forest management and/or monitoring in tropical forest countries, REDD+ / forest-based climate change actions, measurement and reporting.

Working knowledge (proficient – level C) of English and limited knowledge (intermediate – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish

Technical/Functional Skills

  1. Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions, is desirable.
  2. Work experience in Asia and the Pacific region.
    Relevance and extent of experience in management of projects related to forest management and/or monitoring, climate change including related to REDD+. 
  3. Level of knowledge of global climate issues including climate change negotiations, REDD+, MRV procedures and methodologies under the UNFCCC and emerging standards/carbon markets opportunities.
  4. Relevant experience related to collecting and analyzing technical information and data, particularly in Asia.
  5. Extent and relevance of experience in organizing and delivering capacity strengthening, advising and collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders related to halting deforestation, forest monitoring and reporting, climate change forest-based measures, particularly in Asia and the Pacific.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills are needed for the FAO Forestry Officer Recruitment, proven capacity of coordination and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to mobilize resources.
