About the Amujae Initiative
The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Center is proud to announce the call for applications to join the 2025 cohort of the Amujae Initiative, its flagship program aimed at empowering African women to reach the highest levels of public leadership.
This transformative initiative is designed to amplify the voices of African women leaders and inspire them to excel in public service while driving significant societal change. If you are a woman who has embarked on a leadership journey or aspire to serve in public roles, this program offers the support and resources you need to thrive.
The Amujae Initiative seeks to create a powerful network of African women leaders, uniting those who have already made significant strides in their leadership journeys with those aspiring to lead in public service. As part of this program, participants—known as Amujae Leaders—receive mentorship, skill-building opportunities, and access to a supportive network of like-minded women committed to excellence in leadership.
Encouraging women to apply, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female president, emphasized the program’s mission:
“The Amujae Initiative brings together African women who have started their leadership journey, who have committed themselves to doing more in public service, to ascend in their roles together with those women who have advanced and excelled in leadership.”
She highlighted the program’s role in increasing women’s participation in public leadership roles and amplifying their voices in decision-making spaces. Despite significant progress in advancing women’s rights, Madam Sirleaf noted that more collective action is required to ensure equal opportunities for women.
