About the DAAD Scholarship for MSc Food Science and Technology

The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa is now accepting applications for the Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), Kenya.

Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the DAAD program aims to support university staff and public sector professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa. It encourages academic training and development in key sectors such as food science and technology.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the DAAD program:

  • Citizenship: Nationals or permanent residents of a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • Academic Background: Holders of a BSc degree in Food Science and Technology with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division), or related fields such as Food Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Nutrition and Dietetics, Agri-processing, Crop/Animal Production, or equivalent qualifications recognized by DeKUT Senate.
  • Motivation and Commitment: Demonstrate strong motivation and commitment to pursue studies in Food Science and Technology.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English, with all application documents translated into English if originally in another language.
  • Recent Degree: Completed their last university degree no more than 6 years prior to application.
  • Target Groups: Preference given to university staff, candidates considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, public sector professionals, DAFI-programme alumni, female applicants, refugees with recognized status, and candidates from underprivileged regions or groups.

Duration and Application Process

The DAAD scholarship covers the standard period of study for the chosen Master’s programme, up to a maximum of 24 months. Applicants must indicate the full duration of their planned study period in their application.

How to Apply

  1. Step 1: DAAD Scholarship Application
    • Register and apply via the DAAD Scholarship portal DAAD Scholarship Portal.
    • Submit all required documents through the portal.
  2. Step 2: DeKUT Admission Application
    • Complete the application form for the MSc Food Science and Technology programme at DeKUT. Download the form from the DeKUT Application Forms.
    • Submit the completed admission application and all required supporting documents to graduateschool@dkut.ac.ke with the subject line: YOUR NAME, MSc PROGRAMME APPLIED FOR.

Required Documents

  • Curriculum vitae (CV), including list of publications (if applicable)
  • One recommendation letter from a university teacher, highlighting proficiency in English
  • Certified copies of university degree certificates, including transcripts (with grading scale)
  • Letter of motivation (1-2 pages)
  • Copy of passport or National Identification Card (if applicable)
  • UNHCR registration information (if applicable)
  • Short research concept for the Master thesis (maximum 3 pages) including Title, Background, Problem Statement, Aim/Objectives, and Methodology Approach
  • For In-Region applicants, information on university degree recognition from respective countries at least by the time of admission

Applicants with documents in languages other than English should refer to the official website for translation requirements.

Application Deadline

Applications for the DAAD Scholarship for the MSc Food Science and Technology at DeKUT must be submitted by the specified deadline of November 21, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.
