The Bentham-Moxon Trust B.A. Krukoff Fellowship Bursary is now open for applications, offering full support for students pursuing an MSc in Plant and Fungal Taxonomy, Diversity, and Conservation. This prestigious program is a collaboration between Kew Gardens and Queen Mary University of London, aiming to equip the next generation of scientists with the skills and knowledge necessary to describe, understand, and conserve global biodiversity.

Students on this one-year course will develop essential plant and fungal identification skills and gain a thorough understanding of molecular systematics, evolutionary biology, and conservation policy and practice.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Bentham-Moxon Trust B.A. Krukoff Fellowship Bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have the highest level of education below a PhD.
  • Must demonstrate they can meet the university’s MSc entry conditions and gain an unconditional offer by April 2025. Do not apply for the MSc until you have been awarded the bursary.
  • Show experience in Tropical African systematic botany (the MSc research project must focus on the systematics of Tropical African Botany).
  • Demonstrate an interest in systematic botany that aligns with Kew’s Accelerated Taxonomy Priority as outlined in the Kew Science Strategy 2021-2025.
  • Demonstrate how they will continue to work in tropical African botany and have a significant impact after the course. Priority will be given to those with nationality, who live, work, or have close connections with tropical Africa.

Benefits of the Fellowship Bursary

The B.A. Krukoff Fellowship Bursary offers the following benefits:

  • A fully funded bursary to undertake the MSc course.
  • The bursary includes £22,000 for a monthly stipend, covering accommodation, subsistence, and daily travel allowances.
  • Field trip costs are fully covered.
  • Up to £5,000 is provided for visa application costs and the UK Healthcare surcharge fee.
  • The bursary covers round-trip travel from the student’s home country to the UK at the beginning and end of the course.
  • The Trust fully funds the tuition fees.
