The Australia Awards Scholarships 2025 will open applications soon, providing fully funded opportunities for 1,000 African students to pursue Master’s degrees and short courses in Australia.
About the Australia Awards Scholarships
The Australia Awards Scholarships are a key initiative of the Australian Government that supports postgraduate education, professional training, and skills development for African students.
This program aims to:
Equip African students with world-class knowledge and skills
Foster long-term relationships between Australia and African nations
Encourage graduates to contribute to national development upon returning home

Public Policy & Governance (Public Sector Reform, Trade, International Diplomacy)
Environmental & Natural Resource Management (including Mining)
Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) (Short courses only)
Energy (including Natural Gas and Oil Technology)
Infrastructure & Transport (Roads, Airports, Ports Management)
Priority fields may vary by country.
Eligible Countries
Africa: Algeria, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for an Australia Awards Scholarship, applicants must:
Be a citizen of an eligible African country
Be at least 18 years old by 1st February 2025
Apply from their home country (unless working for their government abroad)
Meet the academic and admission requirements of their chosen university
Meet Australia’s student visa requirements
Not hold Australian/New Zealand citizenship or residency
Not be married to or engaged to an Australian/New Zealand citizen/resident
Not be a serving military personnel
Not have been convicted of a criminal offense (including child protection violations)
Additional criteria may apply depending on your country of application.
Also, applicants must meet the following minimum English proficiency scores:
IELTS: 6.5 overall (no band lower than 6.0)
TOEFL iBT: 84 overall (minimum 21 in each section)
PTE Academic: 58 overall (minimum 50 in each skill)
If a university has higher English requirements, applicants must meet those standards.

Full Tuition Fees
Return Air Travel (Economy class, direct route)
Establishment Allowance (for accommodation, books, study materials)
Living Expenses (Fortnightly stipend)
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for medical expenses
Introductory Academic Program (IAP) (Compulsory orientation)
Pre-Course English (PCE) Fees (If required)
Supplementary Academic Support (if needed)
Fieldwork Allowance (For research-based programs)

Note that the application opening and closing dates are 1st February 2025 to 30th April 2025
