The Outreachy Internship 2025 offers a fully funded, three-month remote internship working on open-source software with organizations like Mozilla, Wikimedia, Linux Foundation, and more. This program is a direct line into contributing to real tech projects, building your skill set, and amplifying inclusion within the open-source community.
What Is Outreachy?
Outreachy (formerly the GNOME Internship Programme) is a global initiative offering fully funded internships to candidates from underrepresented genders and communities in tech. Since 2006, it has empowered individuals with no previous industry experience to contribute meaningfully to open-source projects while being paid .
The program runs two rounds per year (May and December), focusing on four key areas: coding, design, documentation, and user interaction. Interns also receive stipends for occasional travel to meet their teams in person.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible candidates include:
- Individuals 18+ who identify as underrepresented in tech (e.g., women, trans, genderqueer, or people of colour in the U.S.)
- Applicants with no prior professional experience in software development or design (though personal or academic projects are welcome)
- Individuals from around the world (varies by project language, often English)
- Those ready to contribute for three months full-time from December – March
