The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) invites applications for the NextWACSI Next Generation Internship Program (NGIP) 2025, a unique opportunity designed to nurture the next generation of civil society leaders in West Africa.
The WACSI Next Generation Internship Program offers emerging changemakers hands-on experience in key areas such as advocacy, capacity development, policy influence, and knowledge sharing.
WACSI Next Generation Internship Program six-month fully funded internship equips young graduates and early-career professionals with practical exposure to regional development challenges and the inner workings of civil society organizations across West Africa.
Since its inception, the Next Generation Internship Programme has trained and mentored dozens of passionate young professionals from across the region — including The Gambia, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Ghana, and other ECOWAS member states.
Interns are placed within WACSI’s Accra headquarters, where they work closely with experienced professionals and contribute to projects that strengthen civil society institutions and promote participatory governance.

WACSI Next Generation Internship Program Benefits
The internship is fully funded by WACSI and includes:
- Round-trip flight from your home country to Accra, Ghana
- Furnished accommodation for the full internship period

WACSI Next Generation Internship Program Eligibility Criteria
You are strongly encouraged to apply if you:
- Are a young graduate or early-career professional (0–3 years of experience) from a West African country.
Hold at least a first degree in a relevant field such as:
- International Relations
- Political Science
- Public Policy
- Development Studies
- Law
- Sociology or related disciplines
- Have strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Are able to work collaboratively in teams, take initiative, and adapt to the dynamic nature of civil society work.
- Are available for full-time commitment for six months in Accra, Ghana.

WACSI Next Generation Internship Program Responsibilities
During the internship, participants will be integrated into various WACSI departments and may take part in activities such as:
- Designing and implementing training tools and learning resources for civil society partners.
- Conducting research, drafting policy briefs, and contributing to advocacy campaigns.
- Assisting in the development of training manuals, toolkits, and reports.
- Supporting event coordination, stakeholder engagement, and project logistics.
- Contributing to monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge documentation processes across WACSI units.
Tips to Strengthen Your Application
- Show your passion for civil society: Clearly express your interest in areas like governance, youth empowerment, human rights, environment, or social justice.
- Demonstrate your communication skills: Include writing samples (e.g., essays, reports, or articles) that showcase your ability to think critically and communicate effectively.
- Highlight versatility: Mention any experience handling multiple roles or adapting to new environments — this shows flexibility and resilience.
- Emphasize language skills: Knowledge of more than one working language (English, French, or Portuguese) is a major advantage.
- Commit to the full duration: Successful applicants must be available for the entire six months. Early withdrawal may result in repayment of incurred costs.
