About the Young Leaders for the SDGs Initiative
The United Nations Youth Office is now accepting applications for the Young Leaders for the SDGs Initiative 2025. This prestigious program recognizes 17 outstanding young changemakers from around the world who are dedicated to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Selected every two years, these young leaders collaborate with the United Nations (UN) and its partners to inspire, engage, and mobilize youth globally in support of the SDGs.
Young Leaders come from diverse backgrounds, representing different regions and industries, including technology, education, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and advocacy. They use their platforms and initiatives to drive meaningful progress toward achieving the SDGs.
Responsibilities
During their two-year tenure, Young Leaders engage in impactful activities such as:
- Championing the SDGs: Advocating for sustainable development through storytelling, strategic partnerships, and high-profile engagements to make the SDGs relatable and actionable for young people worldwide.
- Participating in Global Conversations: Representing youth perspectives at UN events, international conferences, and key decision-making forums.
- Inspiring and Mobilizing Communities: Using innovative solutions and advocacy to drive positive change and encourage grassroots involvement in the SDGs.
- Collaborating with the UN and its Partners: Engaging with UN entities and global organizations to shape policies and contribute to sustainability initiatives.
- Upholding UN Values: Demonstrating leadership, integrity, and accountability in all engagements with the United Nations and external stakeholders.

Eligibility Criteria
The initiative welcomes applications from young leaders of all backgrounds, including women and girls, youth with disabilities, indigenous youth, LGBTQI+ youth, refugees, migrants, and rural youth. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 35 years old at the time of application.
- Have demonstrated leadership in advancing sustainable development in their community, country, or globally.
- Possess a working-level proficiency in English.
