UNFPA

Introduction to the UNFPA Youth Leaders (YOLE) Fellowship Programme

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 UNFPA Youth Leaders (YoLe) Fellowship Programme, an initiative launched by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with the aim of fostering a world where every pregnancy is desired, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is realized.

Rooted in the mandate of empowering youth, UNFPA Ghana initiated the YoLe Fellowship Programme in alignment with both the UNFPA’s Youth Strategy, “My Body, My Life, and My World,” and the broader United Nations Youth Strategy, which urges agencies to enhance their efforts in addressing the needs and rights of young people.

The YoLe Fellowship Programme is strategically crafted to echo the priorities outlined by the Government of Ghana concerning youth development.

It channels its efforts towards fostering economic and financial empowerment among youth, nurturing youth entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, promoting youth employment, exploring intersections between youth and agriculture, addressing youth migration and mobility issues, and advocating for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education and services as per the Ghana National Youth Policy of 2010.

This fellowship initiative spans a duration of one year and is meticulously structured to equip fellows with the skills and mindset necessary to become proactive and transformative leaders in their respective spheres.

Through this program, young individuals are provided with invaluable opportunities for professional and career growth in various leadership capacities across diverse sectors, including opportunities within the UN system.

Fellows are offered personalized mentorship and coaching sessions facilitated by accomplished personalities from various sectors, thereby enriching their learning experiences and fostering holistic development.

The YoLe Fellowship Programme stands as a beacon of empowerment, offering a platform for young leaders to harness their potential and drive positive change within their communities and beyond.

By nurturing a cadre of empowered youth equipped with leadership skills and a commitment to social progress, this initiative contributes to the realization of a more inclusive and sustainable future. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, the YoLe Fellowship Programme strives to create a world where the aspirations of every young person are not just acknowledged but actively supported, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions valued.
