About the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship Program

Applications are now open for the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship Program 2025, a collaboration between the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) and TWAS. This fellowship offers scholars from developing countries the opportunity to pursue a portion of their PhD research in the natural and related applied sciences in Turkey. Research can be conducted at both public and private universities, as well as TÜBİTAK Research Centers and Institutes.

This fellowship is designed to foster scientific collaboration and advance the professional growth of scholars from the Global South.

Structural, Cell, & Molecular Biology
Biological Systems & Organisms
Medical & Health Sciences, including Neurosciences

Computing and Information Technology

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Nationality: Must be a permanent resident and national of a developing country in the Global South. Priority will be given to candidates from Science and Technology Lagging Countries (STLC) and women.
Residency: Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in Turkey or any developed country.

Current Location: Applicants already residing in Turkey are not eligible.
Educational Background: Must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in the natural and related applied sciences (fields listed above).
Age Limit: Applicants must be 35 years old or younger by 31 December 2025.

PhD Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program in natural and related applied sciences in a developing country and must have passed the PhD qualifying exam or be in an advanced stage of their research. An official Registration & No Objection Certificate must be provided.
Acceptance in Turkey: Applicants must provide an official Acceptance Letter from a public/private university or TÜBİTAK Research Center in Turkey. The letter must be signed by the rector or director of the host institution.
Research Proposal: A detailed research proposal in the format specified by TÜBİTAK must be submitted.

English Proficiency: Evidence of proficiency in English is required. If English was the medium of instruction in previous education, a signed statement indicating the level and type of education in English must be provided.
Commitment: Scholars must not take up other assignments during the fellowship and must be financially responsible for any accompanying family members. Upon completing the fellowship, scholars are required to return to their home country.
Previous Fellowship: Applicants must not have previously received a fellowship under this program.

Travel Support: TWAS provides travel support to and from Turkey, including visa-related expenses.
Monthly Allowance: TÜBİTAK provides a monthly allowance to cover accommodation and living expenses during the fellowship period.

Medical Coverage: Minor medical treatment costs are covered by TÜBİTAK.
Tuition and Research Fees: Study fees, including tuition, registration, and research costs, are waived or covered by the host institution in Turkey.

How to Apply

To apply for the TWAS-TÜBİTAK Postgraduate Fellowship Program, follow these steps:

Create a Profile: Register on the TÜBİTAK Researcher Information System (ARBİS) and ensure all details are up-to-date.
Submit Online: Applications must be submitted through the TÜBİTAK online application system (TYBS). No hard copy or email submissions will be accepted.
Acceptance Letter: Ensure you have obtained the Acceptance Letter from the host institution in Turkey before submitting your application.

Research Proposal: Prepare and submit a research proposal in the required format.
Deadline: No applications will be accepted after the deadline. Early submission is encouraged.
