About the The Amina Project

We are pleased to introduce The Amina Project: Empowering Women through Tech Skills and Employment, a ground-breaking Women-Centered Tech Skills Acquisition & Job Placement Initiative created by TALENTCODEAFRICA to empower financially disadvantaged women and teenage girls through tech skills training, internships, and job placements.

Inspired by Queen Amina, a legendary Nigerian figure known for her bravery, leadership, and female independence.

The Amina Project, which aligns with our corporate goal of empowering and positioning over 10 million African tech skills talents by 2030, is committed to closing the gender gap in the African tech sector by providing comprehensive tech skills training to 2000 financially disadvantaged women and teenage girls.

Phase 1: Technology Training

During Phase 1, the focus will be on providing training to 2000 financially disadvantaged women and teenage girls with low to middle income.

The training will last for three months and will cover various high-demand tech skills such as web development, mobile app development, cloud computing, data science and analytics, product management, product design, robotics, and cybersecurity.

Phase 2: Internship and Employment Opportunities

After completing the training, the top graduates from each cohort of the tech skills will have the chance to participate in internships and secure job placements through partnerships with corporate organizations.

Participants who are not immediately offered job placements will have the opportunity to join a community group where they will receive mentorship and guidance from female industry experts as they embark on their tech journey.

Background

Queen Amina, a revered historical figure in the city-state of Zazzau, serves as the guiding inspiration for this project. Similar to Egypt’s Cleopatra, Queen Amina embodies African womanhood, courage, leadership, and independence.

Her legacy transcends time, surviving several generations, thus providing a powerful narrative that resonates with the empowerment and advancement of African women.

At age sixteen, Amina was named Magajiya (heir apparent), and soon after she had distinguished herself as a “leading warrior in her brother’s cavalry” and gained notoriety for her military skills. She is still celebrated today in traditional Hausa praise songs as “Amina daughter of Nikatau, a woman as capable as a man that was able to lead men to war.”

After the death of her brother Karami in 1576, Amina became the first queen of the Hausa people, reigning for 34 years.

In an era where digital prowess equates to power and influence, Queen Amina’s legacy is more relevant now than ever.

Were she among us today, Queen Amina would undoubtedly be a digitally empowered monarch, harnessing technology to fortify her realm and lead a new generation of women into an age of self-reliance and prosperity.

By naming the initiative after Queen Amina, our mission echoes her indomitable spirit; we strive to empower every girl and woman with the tools to unlock their fullest potential.

To be sovereigns in their own right, charting a course toward a fulfilling career, inspiring others, and building a legacy of impact and wealth that will endure for generations.

This is the essence of our initiative – to cultivate leaders who, like Queen Amina, can transform their world.
