Applications are now open for the Tech Policy Press 2025 Fellowship. Tech Policy Press is a nonprofit media venture committed to exploring the intersection of technology and democracy. We strive to push forward a pro-democracy movement in tech policy and are seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about creating impactful change. 

For the 2025 Fellowship program, Tech Policy Press is offering an exciting opportunity for five reporting fellows to conduct in-depth research and produce thought-provoking writing on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) policy, governance, and regulation. Fellows will engage with a variety of critical topics, exploring how AI impacts society, governance, and democracy. Possible areas of focus include:

  • AI and data privacy  
  • AI bias and discrimination  
  • AI and disinformation  
  • AI and intellectual property  
  • AI and the future of work  
  • AI and national security  
  • AI and competition 

Benefits of the Fellowship

Selected fellows will receive a stipend of $10,000 to support their research and writing efforts throughout the fellowship. This funding is aimed at empowering fellows to delve into their chosen areas of AI policy without financial constraints.

Fellowship Expectations

The fellowship is a highly interactive and impactful program, designed to foster deep exploration into AI’s role in shaping democratic principles. Fellows are expected to:

  • Produce Analysis and Reporting: Fellows must consistently publish analysis and reporting on the intersection of technology and democracy, particularly focusing on AI.
  • Maintain High Ethical Standards: Ethical journalism and research are at the core of this fellowship. Fellows must uphold high standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity in all their work.
  • Balance Research, Writing, and Fellowship Activities: Effective time management is critical. Fellows must balance their research and writing responsibilities with active participation in fellowship activities.
  • Engage in Learning Opportunities: Fellows are encouraged to take full advantage of learning and development opportunities provided by Tech Policy Press, including workshops, guest lectures, and networking events.
  • Develop a Network of Experts: Fellows are expected to establish and maintain a network of expert sources relevant to their chosen area of focus in AI policy.
  • Monthly Cohort Meetings: Fellows must attend monthly virtual meetings on the first Monday of every month at 11 a.m. ET. These meetings provide a platform for collaboration, updates, and discussions on ongoing work.
  • Monthly Progress Reports: Prior to each meeting, fellows are required to submit a brief progress update, detailing their work and any challenges faced.
  • One-on-One Mentorship: Fellows will have one-on-one meetings with mentors and program leaders at least once a month to discuss their progress, challenges, and future direction.

  • Public LinkedIn Profile or CV/Resume: Clearly outline your professional and academic background.
  • Links to Prior Publications: Provide samples of your previous work to showcase your writing and research capabilities.
  • References: Include contact information for two professional or academic references who can vouch for your qualifications.
