
About Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship
The Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship is the Erasmus Master in Research and Innovation in Higher Education.
MARIHE is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union (EU) under the action of an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD).
Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship adopts the following set of general objectives:
- Promote European fundamental values of democracy, rule of law, human rights, and public responsibility of and for higher education.
- Increase the cohesion and competitiveness of the European HE and innovation ecosystem.
- Enable strategic and responsible leadership of HEIs.
- Promote equity and diversity and contribute to an inclusive society.
- Enhance the green and digital transition of European universities.
MARIHE achieves these general objectives through the development of a professional workforce for higher education, research, and innovation.
2026/28 Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship summary

Participating Universities
The consortium includes:
- Danube University Krems/Austria (coordinator),
- University of Tampere/Finland,
- Beijing Normal University/China,
- Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences/Germany,
- Eötvös Loránd University/Hungary, and
- Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (deemed to be University)/India.
Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship Requirements
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree issued by a university, quantified as three years of studies (full time) corresponding to 180 ECTS
- show a strong motivation and interest to learn and work in the field of development and management of research and innovation in higher education.
- have sufficient knowledge of English for academic purposes.
- Work experience is not an admission requirement. However, work experience can be a strong advantage for an application, especially if it has been acquired working for (higher) education institutions.
Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship Benefits
- The scholarship will be a contribution to the costs incurred by the beneficiary students and shall cover travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.
- The Erasmus Mundus scholarship is calculated as: EUR 1400/month x duration of the Master programme (in months).
- The scholarship is awarded for full-time enrolment, and will cover the entire duration of the Master programme (max. 24 months).

Application Guidelines for the 2026/28 Erasmus Mundus MARIHE Scholarship
- There is a 2-step application process. First, you enter all your personal data and uploaded your application documents in the MARIHE application portal.
- Eligible applications will be reviewed ongoing and as soon as possible by members of the MARIHE Consortium, according to our assessment criteria
- Based on this review, the consortium will select shortlisted applicants for the 2nd application step.
- If you are shortlisted, you are required to upload one additional application document (2nd application step).
- If you are not shortlisted, your application will be rejected.
- After the second review round, the MARIHE Admission Board will select applicants for the participation in the intake. All candidates will be notified of the outcome of their applications.
