About The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by Howard University, aims to attract and prepare outstanding young individuals for careers as diplomats in the U.S and Promoting a Positive U.S. Presence in the World. Foreign Service. 

This program seeks candidates interested in shaping a freer, more secure, and prosperous world by formulating, representing, and implementing U.S. foreign policy. 

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program particularly encourages applications from minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need.

Program Components

  1. Graduate Fellowship Program
    • Supports two years of graduate study, internships, mentoring, and professional development.
    • Encourages applications from minority groups, women, and those with financial need.
    • Successful fellows will become Foreign Service Officers, impacting countries worldwide.
    • Application Deadline: September 19, 2024, at 11:59 PM ET.
    • Selection Process: Includes a virtual interview and written exercise for finalists between November 11-14, 2024. Awards announced on November 15, 2024.
  2. Summer Enrichment Program
    • A six-week summer program for undergraduate students, enhancing their knowledge of international affairs and career opportunities.
    • Covers tuition, travel, housing, and two meals per day, plus a $3,300 stipend.
    • Program Dates: June 16 – July 25, 2025.
    • Eligibility: Full-time undergraduate students with at least sophomore status and a minimum GPA of 3.2. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
    • Applications Open: October 2024.

Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduate Fellowship Program:
    • U.S. citizens with outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, and financial need.
  • Summer Enrichment Program:
    • Full-time undergraduate students (U.S. citizens) with at least a 3.2 GPA.
