Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 Canon Student Development Program.
Elevate your career and progress toward becoming a professional photographer through this program. It presents an exceptional opportunity for aspiring photographers from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to connect with industry leaders and have their portfolios professionally evaluated.
Portfolio and Grant Submissions
Your submission must include both an existing portfolio and a proposal for a new project. Portfolios can contain a maximum of two recent stories, comprising up to 20 images each, plus a supporting description, image captions and a personal bio.

The programme offers aspiring
photographers from across Europe, Middle East and Africa an incredible opportunity to meet leading industry experts and have their portfolio professionally assessed.
Mentorships
Up to 100 applicants, selected by editors from top media agencies including AFP, EPA, Getty Images and Reuters, will receive 1-2-1 mentorships.
How to apply
To enter, you must be at least 18 on 7th March 2024 and either a student, intern, or have completed your course in the 2023-24 academic year.
A limited number of places are available for participants nominated by the industry, regardless of where they are in their education journey.
Although the programme is open to anyone in Europe, Middle East and Africa, participants will need adequate proficiency in English to take part.

Portfolios can contain a maximum of two recent stories, comprising up to 20 images each, plus a supporting description, image captions and a personal bio.
The entry deadline is 7 March 2024. Up to 100 participants will be accepted onto the Canon Student Development Programme and notified by 29th March. ID is required for entry.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be 18 years or older as of March 7, 2024.
- Must reside in the EMEA region.
- Must have either commenced or completed an educational course or internship with an agency or magazine during the academic year 2023-2024, or be recommended by a professional in the photographic industry.

- Mentorships: Up to 100 applicants, chosen by editors from prominent media agencies such as AFP, EPA, Getty Images, and Reuters, will receive personalized mentorship.
- Exclusive Workshop: The top 25 students will be invited to a transformative 4-day workshop in Girona, Spain.
- Visa pour l’Image: Following the workshop, students will attend Visa pour l’Image, the esteemed international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France.
- Prestigious Prizes: Three students will receive a €2k grant along with Canon equipment to execute a new project.
Selection Criteria
Participants will be chosen by a panel consisting of Canon representatives and external industry professionals from leading media agencies, such as AFP, EPA, Getty Images, and Reuters. Submissions will be evaluated based on narrative ability, authenticity, storyline, biography, overall quality of the portfolio, and project proposal.
To apply, you must be at least 18 years old by March 7, 2024, and either be a student, intern, or have completed your coursework during the 2023-24 academic year. A limited number of positions are available for participants recommended by the industry, regardless of their educational status. While the program is open to individuals from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, participants must have sufficient English proficiency to participate.
