Eligiblity Criteria
The ACT Foundation seeks to partner with organizations that align with its core mission and have a demonstrated track record of community impact. The eligibility criteria for organizations include:
- Focus Area Alignment: Organizations must be working within one or more of the ACT Foundation’s focus areas: Health, Entrepreneurship, Environment, or Leadership.
- Legal Registration: Applicants must be registered as a legal entity in their respective African countries. Organizations must have been legally registered for at least two years (minimum of 24 months).
- Non-profit Status: Organizations applying for the grant must be non-profit entities, registered as either a Company Limited by Guarantee (GTE) or a Limited by Guarantee (LTD). For social enterprises, funding will only be extended to non-profit initiatives.
- Governance Structure: A clear governance structure must be in place, and details of the Board of Directors should be included in the organization’s registration documents. If this is not reflected in the current documents, they must be updated accordingly.
- Funding History: Applicants must provide evidence of other sources of funding, demonstrating their ability to manage and execute projects effectively.
- Team Composition: Organizations must have a minimum of three staff members (either part-time or full-time employees) who are responsible for the operation and management of the project.
- Direct Responsibility: Applicants must be directly responsible for both the preparation and management of the proposed project. Intermediary organizations acting on behalf of others are not eligible to apply.
- Geographical Focus: All initiatives must be implemented within Africa.
The following entities are ineligible for ACT Foundation grants:
- Individuals: The grant program is only open to organizations, not individuals.
- Non-profits without a Legal Board: Organizations without a clearly defined Board of Directors or Trustees, as outlined in their registration documents, are ineligible.
- Entities with a Poor Financial History: Any organization that has previously mismanaged funds from other foundations will not be considered for this grant.
- Political Entities: Political parties, campaign groups, and related institutions or affiliates are not eligible for funding.
- Organizations Promoting Illegal Activities: Entities that promote illegal activities, inhumane policies, or terrorism will not be considered for the grant.
