About the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) Scholarship Competition
The 2025 Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) Scholarship Competition, organized by the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), is not your typical scholarship program. Instead of awarding funds purely on academic grades, it challenges students to take real-world action by organizing and running their own electronic waste (e-waste) collection campaigns.
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a Canadian non-profit dedicated to promoting sustainability, digital inclusion, and responsible electronics recycling. Through this competition, the organization seeks to empower students to become leaders in environmental stewardship while enhancing their skills in leadership, marketing, and community engagement.
Participants are required to design a campaign, promote it in their community, collect eligible electronics, and submit a comprehensive report on their activities. The most impactful, creative, and effective campaigns will be rewarded with substantial scholarships, refurbished technology, and the chance to make a difference by donating laptops to charities of their choice.
Eligible Fields
This competition is open to students from all academic disciplines. There is no restriction on field of study because the ERA Scholarship focuses on leadership potential, creativity, and environmental action rather than specific subject areas. Whether you’re studying business, engineering, social sciences, arts, or sciences, you can take part and make an impact.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate, applicants must:
- Be a full-time or part-time student currently residing in Canada.
- Be willing and able to organize an e-waste collection campaign between January 1, 2025, and September 30, 2025.
- Students living outside ERA’s main operating cities — Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Halifax, and Montreal — are still eligible but will follow adjusted participation requirements.
Selection Criteria
Applications and final competition results are judged on:
- Quantity and Quality of E-Waste Collected – More items and higher-value devices strengthen your case.
- Creativity and Effectiveness of the Marketing Campaign – How innovative and engaging was your approach?
- Community Impact and Engagement – How well did you involve local residents, businesses, and organizations?
- Comprehensive Final Report – Detailed documentation of strategies, outcomes, and lessons learned.
- Social Media Use – Active tagging of ERA and use of the official competition hashtag #ERAScholarship.
Eligible Countries
This competition is open exclusively to students in Canada.
