About the L’Oréal Sustainable Innovation Accelerator
L’Oréal Groupe, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), is now accepting applications for the 2025 Sustainable Innovation Accelerator. This groundbreaking global program is specifically tailored for startups, SMEs, and scaleups that are developing advanced, deployment-ready solutions to tackle the world’s most pressing environmental and social challenges in the beauty sector and beyond.
The Sustainable Innovation Accelerator is a strategic initiative created by L’Oréal Groupe in partnership with the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL). This program is part of L’Oréal’s commitment to drive environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and circular business models within its global supply chain and product development ecosystem.
Through this 12-week accelerator, selected companies receive expert mentorship, visibility, and opportunities to co-create, pilot, and scale innovative technologies with L’Oréal’s international brands and supply chain networks. With tailored support from Cambridge’s global network of sustainability leaders and access to L’Oréal’s industry expertise, this initiative serves as a high-impact platform for startups aiming to accelerate market entry and long-term growth.
Eligible Fields
To qualify for this program, applicants must be offering innovations that align with at least one of seven critical sustainability focus areas:
- Low-carbon, climate-smart technologies
- Water resilience solutions
- Nature-based innovations
- Alternative ingredients and materials
- Fossil plastic elimination & plastic waste solutions
- Circularity and resource efficiency
- Sustainable and inclusive business models
These categories reflect L’Oréal’s broader goals for climate action, biodiversity preservation, and inclusive, ethical innovation in the beauty and wellness industries.
Eligibility Criteria
This program is open to a broad range of innovators and enterprises. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a startup, SME, scaleup, or established business
- Offer solutions that are deployment-ready (Technology Readiness Level 7–9)
- Innovations at TRL 5–6 may also be considered if they show strong potential
- Be able to demonstrate significant sustainability impact, innovation maturity, and commercial feasibility
- Be willing to engage in a pilot or commercial collaboration with L’Oréal
The program welcomes applicants from all regions of the world, regardless of sector location or headquarters.
Selection Criteria
Participants will be chosen through a highly competitive, expert-reviewed selection process that evaluates:
- Alignment with at least one of the seven sustainability focus areas
- Technology maturity and readiness for rapid deployment
- Innovation impact, especially regarding environmental and social outcomes
- Scalability and feasibility for collaboration with L’Oréal brands and supply chain
- Potential for long-term commercial partnership or pilot testing
To ensure unbiased evaluation, all applications are anonymized before review by panels from CISL and L’Oréal.
Eligible Countries
This is a fully global program. Companies from any country or region are welcome to apply, provided they meet the eligibility and readiness criteria.
Required Documents
To complete the application, interested companies must:
- Submit the official online application form via the CISL Accelerator portal
- Provide a description of the innovation and its alignment with the challenge focus
- Outline the readiness level of the solution and its potential impact
- Anonymize their submission using a unique code provided upon application
All submissions must be clear, well-documented, and demonstrate a path to implementation with L’Oréal.
