About PAGES African Mobility Fellowship
PAGES is excited to announce the African Mobility Research Fellowship Program, also known as the African Mobility Fellowship. This initiative aims to support early-career African scientists studying past global changes by providing them with opportunities to gain international research experience within the continent. The next application deadline is 15 August 2024.
PAGES African Mobility Fellowship Program Overview
The African Mobility Fellowship is designed to offer limited financial support for travel and subsistence to early-career researchers from African countries. This includes PhD students and postdoctoral researchers currently affiliated with African institutions. The primary goal is to foster collaborative research and enhance the paleoscience network within Africa.
Fellowship Benefits
The PAGES African Mobility Fellowship covers:
- International Travel: Economy class flights.
- Visa Costs: Expenses related to obtaining the necessary travel documents.
- Living Expenses: Subsistence and accommodation costs for the duration of the exchange.
- Laboratory Consumables: Up to a maximum of 10% of the total budget.
- Note: Insurance costs are not covered, and PAGES is not responsible for travel disruptions such as flight cancellations.
Fellowship Duration
The fellowship is awarded for a short duration, ranging from two to four weeks. Awardees must utilize the fellowship within 12 months from the date of award.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the PAGES African Mobility Fellowship, applicants must:
- Be in the final stage of their PhD or within five years of completing their PhD (including those who have not held a postdoctoral position).
- Hold a student or paid position in their home country during the application and fellowship period.
- Be a citizen of an African country and currently working or studying at an African institution.
- Be engaged in research within the scientific scope of PAGES.
- Have secured an agreement from a host researcher/institution in another African country.
- Ensure the fellowship duration is between two and four weeks within a 12-month period from the award date.
Application Process for the PAGES African Mobility Fellowship
Applicants are selected based on the merit and quality of their application, which must include:
Completed Application Form:
Description of proposed research and travel (max. 1000 words).
Explanation of the fellowship’s impact on professional development and its significance to the home institution/country (max. 200 words).
Project timeline and outcomes (up to one month).
Detailed budget in USD.
Two Letters of Recommendation:
One from the current academic supervisor at the home institution.
One from the supervisor at the host institution.
Curriculum Vitae:
Outlining major academic and professional achievements (max. 2 pages).
Submission Guidelines
Preferred Language: English (French applications accepted).
Submission: Email the completed application form to pages@pages.unibe.ch with the subject “Application PAGES African Mobility Fellowship”.
Report Requirements: After the fellowship, awardees must submit a final report in English, including a financial report, a scientific report, and a short article (650 words and one figure) for publication in Past Global Changes Magazine.
