About the Commonwealth Foundation Grant
Below, you will find everything you need to apply for up to £30,000 in funding for civil society projects across the Commonwealth Foundation. Before starting your application, please carefully review the eligibility criteria and guidance documents.
The Commonwealth Foundation Grants supports projects that promote constructive engagement between civil society and decision-makers, particularly around policy development and implementation. Successful projects must address one or more of the Foundation’s three priority themes:
- Health Justice
- Freedom of Expression
- Climate Justice
Who the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Funds
The Foundation funds not-for-profit civil society organizations (CSOs) registered in eligible Commonwealth member states with at least three years of experience in participatory governance and advocacy. Please ensure that your organization meets the eligibility criteria before applying.
Exclusions
The Commonwealth Foundation Grants will not fund:
- Academic studies, training courses, or exchanges between developed countries.
- Pure service delivery projects (e.g., construction or installation of facilities).
- Capacity-building projects solely for government officials or the private sector.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?
To be eligible, your organization must:
- Be a registered CSO in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Have at least three years of experience in participatory governance and advocacy.
- Propose projects starting after 1 August 2025 and before the end of September 2025.
Please note that organizations from certain countries (marked with an asterisk) can apply as partners but not as lead applicants.

Applicants must complete the eligibility quiz and download relevant guidance documents from this page. The application deadline for the 2024 grants call is 24 October 2024, 1pm BST.
