About ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme

The ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme is designed

  • for graduates, doctorate, and early career researchers in Africa (Mentees),
  • as well as junior scientists, PhDs, and Postdocs at Max Planck Institutes (Mentors).

ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme

 Objectives:

The ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme aims to provide Mentees in Africa with guidance on advancing their studies and Scientific careers. Through international networking and mentorship, Mentees have the opportunity to enhance their skills, define career goals, and gain valuable experience.

ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme

 Eligibility:

Mentees:

  • Graduates or doctoral candidates at African universities
  • Willingness to engage in the mentoring process in English
  • Enrolled in a recognized university

Mentors:

  • Junior scientists at Max Planck Institutes
  • Supportive letter from Max Planck Director or group leader

Program Details:

  • One-year collaboration for 25 Mentor-Mentee pairs
  • Online training for effective communication
  • €5,000 funding for a 4-week research stay at Max Planck Institute
  • Reimbursement up to €400 for visa, travel, and health insurance costs

ARTEMIS Mentorship Programme Requirements:

Both Mentors and Mentees:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Letter of motivation
  • Completed questionnaire

Mentees

  •  Ability and willingness to take up new tasks and challenges
  • International passport (with a minimum of 6 months validity) or a valid means of identification
  • Good command of the English language or where applicable, a proof of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS minimum of 6.5 or other equivalent) as the entire Mentoring will be conducted in English
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a recognized university
  • Applicant must provide a proof of enrollment
  • Applicant must not have graduated later than 1 year from the time of the application

Mentors:

  • A letter of support from the Max Planck Director or group leader
  • For administrative reasons, Mentors need to inform the head of administration of the MPI about their application prior to the submission
